Copy letter on Post Office embossed paper at the Treasury from John Tilley, Secretary General Post Office (replaced Rowland Hill), to RRW Lincoln, dated 4th July 1872, together with a response from Lincoln dated following day. The exchange of letters relates to staff compensation by way of day/weekly pay or annual salaries for Sorters, Oversees and Messengers. It is felt that this exchange of views relates directly to the Act of 1870 whereby the Telegraph service was transferred to the Post Office.
